Gweth Lisawanza, daughter of celebrated Kenyan rapper and entrepreneur King Kaka, has stepped into a creative leadership role at just 11 years old.
A Facebook reel posted on King Kaka’s official page captured the lively moment she was formally introduced with the title Creative Director – The Year of the Pen. The clip has since attracted widespread attention, marking one of the most public acknowledgements of a project involving the young creative.
“I’m a Student and a Business Lady”
In the video, Gweth confidently introduces herself, describing her dual life as both a student and a creative professional.
“I’m Gweth Lisawanza, I am a student who goes to school during the weekdays and I am a business lady,” she said.
She made it clear that her role goes beyond symbolism.
“I am King Kaka’s Art Director, he might also happen to be my dad but I don’t want us to get used to each other,” she added, highlighting the importance of maintaining professional boundaries despite their family ties.
How She Landed the Role
According to Gweth, her appointment came after she was challenged to conceptualise the album cover for the project themed “The Year of the Pen.”
“I landed the role of being his creative director after I was asked to come up with the idea for the album cover. He gave me the prompt, ‘The Year of the Pen’. I did a sketch then sent it to him for him to paint,” she explained.
The process was collaborative yet structured. After King Kaka translated her concept onto canvas, Gweth exercised final approval.
“After the painting I very much approved it,” she said.
Beyond One Artwork
Gweth revealed that her involvement extends beyond a single project.
“Any graphic design you see of his, it’s either I approved it or helped him out,” she stated in the clip.
Her emerging role signals a unique blend of mentorship and early creative empowerment within one of Kenya’s most prominent entertainment families.
