National Transport and Safety Authority to Roll Out Smart Traffic Cameras Nationwide

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Ministry of Roads and Transport have confirmed plans to fast-track the rollout of smart traffic cameras across all major cities in Kenya.

The move is aimed at curbing bribery on the roads and improving compliance with traffic laws through automated enforcement.

Integrated With Instant Fines System

According to authorities, the smart cameras will be fully integrated with the instant fines system, allowing motorists who violate traffic rules to receive penalties electronically and settle them without spending hours in court.

Officials say the system is designed to enhance transparency, reduce human contact in enforcement and streamline revenue collection.

Rollout to Be Completed in One Month

Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said the nationwide rollout will be completed within the next one month under an investor-supported programme.

The government expects the technology-driven enforcement system to improve road safety, reduce corruption and ensure greater accountability among motorists.
