The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry has officially appointed Hillary Kibiwott as an ambassador for Kenya’s ambitious 15 billion Trees Campaign, following his record-breaking tree-planting effort.
Kibiwott recently captured national attention after planting an impressive 23,326 trees within 24 hours, from April 22 to April 23, 2026. The remarkable feat took place at the Kessup Block of Kaptagat Forest and is currently pending verification by Guinness World Records.
In a statement, the Ministry described the achievement as a powerful demonstration of resilience, determination, and the impact of citizen-led climate action. Officials emphasized that Kibiwott’s ability to mobilize communities across generations reflects the kind of leadership needed to drive Kenya’s environmental goals.
The 15 billion Trees Campaign, which aims to significantly increase forest cover by 2032, relies heavily on public participation. Kibiwott’s appointment is expected to inspire more Kenyans to take part in tree planting initiatives and environmental conservation efforts.
His milestone not only highlights the urgency of addressing climate change but also showcases how individual action can contribute to national and global sustainability targets.
