South African entrepreneur Vusi Thembekwayo has sparked widespread online debate after sharply criticising Kenya Airways, describing it as the worst airline he has ever flown with.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Thembekwayo recounted a frustrating experience at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where he alleged that passengers were forced to walk on the tarmac in heavy rain during a chaotic boarding process. He claimed travellers were left exposed to harsh weather conditions, raising concerns about passenger handling and overall service standards.
The investor also took issue with what he described as poor customer service, criticising the attitude of some airline staff during the disruption. According to him, the situation reflected deeper operational challenges within the airline.
Adding to his frustrations, Thembekwayo alleged that his luggage was returned in a badly damaged condition. Despite the visible damage, he claimed he was informed that the baggage would still need to undergo formal assessment procedures before any action could be taken.
The outspoken businessman, who says he has flown more than 40 times this year, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the entire experience. His remarks have since gone viral, igniting heated discussions online about service delivery, passenger experience, and the reputation of Kenya’s national carrier.
The incident has once again placed Kenya Airways under scrutiny, with travellers weighing in on their own experiences and calling for improvements in customer service and operational efficiency.
