Popular retailer Shiquo wa Hii Style is counting losses after detectives from the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) conducted a raid at its outlet located at RNG Plaza and seized goods suspected to be counterfeit.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with representatives of major international sportswear brands, targeted merchandise allegedly bearing unauthorized trademarks of globally recognized companies, including Nike and Adidas.
According to authorities, the raid resulted in the seizure of shoes and other products valued at more than KSh 15 million. Investigators believe the items may have infringed on intellectual property rights and trademark protections.
The enforcement action has generated significant discussion online, with many Kenyans expressing sympathy for the business owner and highlighting the challenges facing traders amid a difficult economic environment.
However, the ACA has defended the operation, emphasizing that counterfeit goods undermine legitimate businesses, deprive brand owners of revenue, and can expose consumers to products that do not meet required quality and safety standards.
The authority has reiterated its commitment to enforcing intellectual property laws and curbing the circulation of counterfeit products in the Kenyan market.
Investigations are ongoing, and no final determination has yet been made regarding the seized merchandise. As such, any allegations of wrongdoing remain subject to the outcome of the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
