Veteran journalist Jeff Koinange has revealed that a controversial live interview involving outspoken lawyer Miguna Miguna played a key role in his departure from KTN nearly eight years ago.

Speaking on his I AM: Jeff Koinange podcast, the seasoned news anchor recounted how the incident unfolded while he was hosting the popular JKL bench show at the station.

Heated On-Air Confrontation

According to Koinange, the turning point came during a tense interview where Miguna Miguna confronted Esther Passaris live on air.

The exchange reportedly escalated quickly, drawing attention from both viewers and station management.

“People loved the KTN bench up until probably the last interview with the man, Miguna Miguna. Right next to Miguna Miguna was Esther Passaris,” Jeff said.

“He just went off on her, and KTN responded and said that was not good, they said it was bad, and I had to pack up my bags and move to Citizen TV.”

Move to Citizen TV and Rise of JKLive

Following the fallout, Koinange exited KTN and joined Citizen TV, where he launched JKLive, a prime-time talk show.

The programme has since grown into one of Kenya’s most popular and long-running live television shows, cementing his status as a leading figure in the country’s media industry.

A Defining Career Moment

Koinange’s revelation sheds light on a pivotal moment in his career, highlighting how a single high-profile interview reshaped his professional journey. The incident remains one of the most talked-about moments in Kenya’s media history.
