A 24-year-old former Radio Africa journalist has died following a tragic road accident involving a motorcycle and a concrete mixer along Uhuru Highway in Nairobi.
The victim, identified as Rose Mbugua, was killed in the crash that occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday near the University Way roundabout, according to police.
How the accident happened
Police said the collision involved a Foton concrete mixer and a motorcycle, both of which were travelling from the Westlands direction towards Nairobi’s central business district.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle rider reportedly struck the pavement, lost control and crashed into the left side of the concrete mixer.
The impact threw Mbugua, who was travelling as a pillion passenger, off the motorcycle.
She sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police launch investigations
Police officers visited and documented the scene before moving the body to Nairobi City Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Investigators are continuing to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
Colleagues mourn journalist
Friends and former colleagues have described Mbugua as a hardworking, humble and dedicated journalist whose untimely death has shocked those who knew her.
Her passing adds to the growing concern over road safety in Nairobi, particularly involving motorcycles and heavy commercial vehicles.
