Fear has engulfed residents of Gitothua in Ruiru, Kiambu County, following a series of unusual night attacks by an unidentified man who is reportedly robbing pedestrians before biting his victims.
The bizarre incidents have left several residents nursing serious injuries and heightened anxiety within the neighbourhood, with many avoiding walking after dark.
One of the latest reported victims, Daniel Ndegwa, said he and a friend were attacked at around 9 p.m. on July 11 while walking home. According to Ndegwa, the suspect confronted them and demanded his mobile phone before turning violent when they resisted.
“He swang on my left hand and bite my finger,” Ndegwa recounted.
His family said Ndegwa’s companion sustained severe facial injuries during the attack.
Residents say the repeated assaults have disrupted normal life in the area, with businesses now closing earlier than usual and families restricting movement after sunset.
Many traders have opted to shut their shops before nightfall, while parents say they no longer allow their children to run evening errands for fear of encountering the attacker.
The disturbing attacks have sparked growing concern among locals, who are calling on security agencies to move swiftly and apprehend the suspect before more people are harmed.
Ruiru Sub-County Police Commander Maina Kibathi confirmed that police are investigating the incidents and have already put in place strategies aimed at tracking down and arresting the suspect.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid walking alone at night where possible, and report any suspicious individuals or incidents to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
