Godfrey Osotsi has called for the resignation and arrest of Raymond Omollo, accusing him of orchestrating a violent attack against him in Kisumu.
Senator Recounts Ordeal
Speaking during a press briefing, Osotsi said what began as a routine visit to the lakeside city during parliamentary recess quickly turned violent.
He explained that he had been going about his normal schedule, including a visit to a barbershop and a planned meeting with a local football official, before stopping at a café.
Attack by Group of Youths
According to the senator, a group of between 15 and 20 young men approached him while he was seated.
Initially, the interaction appeared friendly, with some of them greeting him, but the situation escalated suddenly.
“They started hitting me while questioning why I support the one-term slogan,” Osotsi said, adding that he was overwhelmed and lost consciousness during the attack.
Sustained Injuries
Osotsi claimed the assailants continued beating him even after he fell, leaving him with serious injuries, including a swollen face, a paralysed hand, and a knee injury.
He said his security team intervened after hearing the commotion, forcing the attackers to flee after one allegedly attempted to draw a firearm.
Emergency Response
The legislator said he escaped through a back exit and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu for treatment.
Allegations Against Omollo
Osotsi accused Omollo of being directly responsible for the attack, alleging that he had been under surveillance prior to the incident.
“People were used to monitor me and share my location. This was not random,” he said.
He further claimed that individuals linked to the attack followed him to the hospital, raising concerns about his safety.
Concerns Over Information Leak
The senator also questioned how details of the incident quickly surfaced on social media, suggesting possible involvement of state-linked bloggers before his team issued any official communication.
Political Tensions
Osotsi linked the attack to ongoing political tensions and warned against attempts to incite ethnic divisions, calling for accountability and justice over the incident.
