Motorists using the Nairobi Expressway will temporarily enjoy toll-free access along part of the highway at night as construction works continue on Waiyaki Way.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, Moja Expressway Company announced that the temporary arrangement will apply on Thursday and Friday nights between 9 pm and 6 am.
According to the company, the move is aimed at easing traffic congestion and supporting ongoing construction works along Waiyaki Way between the General Accident Towers area and ICEA Lion Group.
“To facilitate ongoing construction along Waiyaki Way between GTC and ICEA Lion Group, a temporary toll-free arrangement on the Nairobi Expressway will be implemented,” the company stated.
Under the arrangement, motorists entering the expressway through Haile Selassie Entrance A near Bunyala Roundabout will be allowed to exit through the Nairobi Westlands exit without paying toll charges.
However, Moja Expressway clarified that drivers must collect an entry ticket at the Haile Selassie entrance station for the waiver to apply.
“Motorists are advised to use the Nairobi Expressway through Haile Selassie Entrance A with an entry ticket and exit free of charge at the Nairobi Westlands Exit,” the notice added.
The company further noted that the toll-free arrangement only applies to motorists using the specified entry and exit points during the designated hours.
All other toll stations and routes will continue operating normally under existing toll charges.
Motorists have also been urged to observe traffic signage and cooperate with traffic marshals deployed along diversion routes during the construction period.
The latest traffic management measures come amid ongoing infrastructure improvement works targeting key transport corridors linking the Nairobi CBD and Westlands.
Waiyaki Way remains one of Nairobi’s busiest roads, serving commuters travelling between the city centre, Westlands and western parts of the country.
Since its launch, the Nairobi Expressway has become a major alternative route for motorists seeking to avoid congestion on Nairobi roads, significantly reducing travel time between Mlolongo and Westlands.
