Former Belgium international Divock Origi has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31, ending a remarkable career that saw him become one of the most iconic impact players of his generation.

Origi, who is the son of former Mike Origi striker, leaves the game having played for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool FC, Nottingham Forest FC and AC Milan.

Liverpool Hero Bows Out

The forward will forever be remembered for his unforgettable moments at Liverpool, where he scored 41 goals in 175 appearances and played a crucial role in some of the club’s greatest modern successes.

Origi became a fan favorite for his ability to deliver in big matches, most notably during Liverpool’s dramatic UEFA Champions League-winning campaign in 2019. His goals against Barcelona in the famous Anfield comeback and in the final against Tottenham Hotspur cemented his place in club history.

During his time at Anfield, he helped Liverpool win:

  • UEFA Champions League
  • English Premier League
  • FA Cup
  • FIFA Club World Cup
  • UEFA Super Cup
  • EFL Cup

A Career Across Europe’s Top Leagues

Beyond Liverpool, Origi featured for several clubs across Europe, gaining experience in England, France and Italy. His journey included spells with Lille, Wolfsburg, Nottingham Forest and AC Milan.

Despite facing competition for starting places throughout much of his career, Origi built a reputation as a dependable striker capable of producing decisive moments when his team needed them most.

Strong Kenyan Connection

Although he represented Belgium at international level, Origi maintained strong ties to Kenya through his father Mike Origi, a former Harambee Stars striker who enjoyed a successful football career in East Africa and Europe.

His success on the global stage made him one of the most prominent footballers of Kenyan heritage ever to play in Europe’s elite competitions.

End of an Era

Origi’s retirement marks the end of a memorable chapter for a player whose name became synonymous with clutch goals, unforgettable nights and major trophies.

While his career may not have been defined by huge goal-scoring numbers, his impact on some of football’s biggest stages ensured he leaves the game with a legacy that many players can only dream of achieving.
