Police have arrested a Grade 9 student in connection with the deaths of two young girls whose bodies were discovered in Nkura Village, Kisii South.
The victims, identified as four-year-old Annah Bahati and five-year-old Stacy Nyanchama, reportedly disappeared on Tuesday evening while playing near their homes.
According to preliminary investigations, a search was launched after the children failed to return home. Hours later, their bodies were found abandoned in a banana plantation.
Investigators suspect the two minors were abducted before being defiled and poisoned. Police are working to establish the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the killings.
The Grade 9 student has been arrested as the prime suspect, while detectives continue pursuing other leads to determine whether additional suspects were involved.
The bodies of the two girls have been moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are expected to establish the exact causes of death.
Police say investigations are ongoing as they seek to gather more evidence and identify any possible accomplices.
