Safaricom has announced revised M-Pesa transaction charges for Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods merchants, with some fees reduced by up to 50 percent as part of its PATA MORE campaign.

The new tariff structure is being rolled out in three phases beginning August 1, 2026, with the company saying the changes are aimed at making digital payments more affordable and supporting the growth of small businesses across Kenya.

“To make digital payments more affordable and support the growth of businesses across Kenya, Safaricom is introducing revised tariffs for Pochi la Biashara and Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods.”

The first phase is a 90-day promotional period running from August 1 to October 31, 2026, targeting Pochi la Biashara merchants.

Under the revised charges, customers making payments of up to KSh200 to Pochi la Biashara merchants will not pay any transaction fee, up from the previous free threshold of KSh100.

Safaricom has also introduced a flat maximum charge of KSh50 for transactions between KSh2,501 and KSh250,000, replacing the previous maximum fee of KSh108.

For example, a customer paying KSh10,000 to a Pochi la Biashara merchant will now pay KSh50, down from the previous KSh90.

Revised Pochi la Biashara Customer Charges

Transaction Amount Customer Charge
KSh1 – KSh200 Free
KSh201 – KSh500 KSh7
KSh501 – KSh1,000 KSh13
KSh1,001 – KSh1,500 KSh23
KSh1,501 – KSh2,500 KSh33
KSh2,501 – KSh250,000 KSh50

Safaricom said the revised pricing is designed to encourage greater adoption of digital payments while reducing transaction costs for traders and customers. The company noted that additional phases of the tariff review will cover Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods merchants as it continues implementing the broader PATA MORE campaign.
