One of President William Ruto’s close aides Dennis Itumbi has accused the media of being biased in its coverage of the ongoing anti-government protests.
Itumbi has been using his social media pages to show that a majority of Kenyans are unbothered by the protests and life is going on as usual in most towns.
Additionally, he has accused the media of blowing the protests out of proportion while ignoring the fact that some protestors are using the chaos as an excuse to loot.
Like for example, the vandalism that took place at Pramukh supermarket in Nyamasaria, Kisumu on Wednesday was largely ignored by the press which was interested in running battles between police and protestors.
“But obviously, the media did not see this one. They were too busy covering the closed gates of Mama Ngina home in Muthaiga. of outright hooliganism,” argued Itumbi.
“The one-sided coverage that shows violence and ignores the fact that most of Kenya was calm will not succeed. It has failed before, and it will fail again,” he said.
Azimio la Umoja is set to continue its third wave of anti-government protests on Thursday. Opposition leader Raila Odinga who was a no-show on Wednesday has rejected an invite to participate in peace talks organized by the church.
