Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has overhauled the healthcare sector. Changes involve the comprehensive assessment of medical superintendents’ qualifications within the county.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Kang’ata outlined the intention of his administration to revamp the health sector.
This revamp includes the implementation of a mandatory suitability evaluation process for the deployment of medical superintendents.
As a result of this initiative, all incumbent medical superintendents have been requested to temporarily step down from their roles, effective September 7.
The responsibility of managing this evaluation process falls under the jurisdiction of the Chief Officer in charge of health.
The Chief Officer will soon release a notice inviting applications from doctors interested in fulfilling the role of medical superintendents in various hospitals across the county.
This innovative evaluation will be orchestrated by a committee, working closely with the office of the county secretary and the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, Dr. Fredrick Mbugua.
The process itself will involve a multi-stage assessment. The initial phase will consist of evaluating the applications, leading to the selection of the top three candidates.
These selected candidates will then undergo a comprehensive oral examination, facilitated by a committee formed by the Chief Officer of Health and the county secretary.
The ultimate victor in this evaluation will be granted a one-year term, which is renewable upon further client satisfaction assessments.
In the interest of enhancing the overall healthcare experience for the county’s residents, Governor Kang’ata has also directed Dr. Fredrick Mbugua, alongside other senior officers of the health department, to modernize and automate systems in all 157 medical facilities.
This strategic move aims to combat the persistent issue of medicine shortages within these facilities.
To achieve this goal, a timeline of one month has been set for the completion of the automation process.
Governor Kang’ata’s administration places great emphasis on improving healthcare provisions for the residents of Murang’a County.
These measures are geared toward ensuring that both medical personnel and the facilities they manage are optimally equipped to address the healthcare needs of the community.
