The National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Energy has summoned businesswoman Ann Njeri Njoroge to appear before them on November 22, 2023, in relation to the Sh17 billion oil controversy.
The committee is seeking additional information from Njeri, particularly documentation proving her ownership of the 100,000 metric consignment. Her appearance is expected to shed light on the ownership details and provide clarity on the legitimacy of her claim.
Njeri, represented by her lawyer Cliffee Ombeta, has affirmed her commitment to attending the hearing and continues to assert her ownership of the consignment.
The dispute over the consignment involves conflicting claims from both Njeri and the Ministry of Energy. The parliamentary hearing aims to unravel the mystery surrounding this complex issue.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have contested Njeri’s ownership, alleging the use of forged documents to support her claim.
KPA Board Chairman Benjamin Tayari stated that Ann’s Import and Export Enterprises Limited, Njeri’s company, is not listed among the manifested consignees submitted by the Ship’s Agent, adding another layer of intrigue to the unfolding situation.
