A primary school teacher lost his life when he was electrocuted while trapping grasshoppers to take to his parents.
James Kirungi, was a teacher at Blessed Adolf Kolping Kindergarten in Kakumiro, Western Uganda. The incident occurred in November 24.
At the time of his death, Kirungi was 26.
The circumstances surrounding the electrocution have prompted the police to initiate investigations into the incident.
Preliminary investigations into the tragic incident reveal that the primary school teacher, James Kirungi, accidentally came into contact with a live wire connected to a high-voltage power line, resulting in his immediate death.
Kakumiro District Police Commander Morris Niyonzima confirmed that the owner of the grasshopper trapping site, where the fatal incident occurred, has been arrested in connection to the case.
Niyonzima explained that the unfortunate event was attributed to poor power connection at the site, and when the teacher inadvertently touched the live wire, he was electrocuted to death.
The police commander emphasized the need for a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
“We were alerted by his neighbours who came to report that he had been electrocuted. They tried to take him to hospital but he was already dead,” he stated.
He added that the police, in conjunction with power companies in the country, are going to disconnect all illegal electricity connections at grasshopper trapping sites.
