President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that fuel prices will decrease starting next month.
Speaking after launching the Sagana-Kathaka-Thiguku road construction, he acknowledged recent price hikes but emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the issue.
“Though global prices are rising, we’re managing the increase, ensuring it doesn’t burden many Kenyans. You’ve already seen a decline this month, and it will continue in the coming months, securing our economy,” he stated.
Upon assuming office, President Ruto addressed fuel shortages, having engaged with Saudi Arabia and the UAE to ensure a steady supply. He disclosed discussions on the fuel and dollar situation, promising sufficient fuel circulation in the country.
“Fuel prices are now under control. When I started, petrol stations lacked fuel due to a shortage of dollars. I spoke to Saudi Arabia and the UAE, securing a deal to supply us with fuel, allowing us to pay in Kenyan shillings after six months. That’s why Kenya never runs out of fuel,” he explained.
President Ruto dismissed claims by opposition leader Raila Odinga about cheaper fuel in Tanzania and Uganda, asserting that these countries are now following Kenya’s lead in agreements with Gulf nations. He assured Kenyans that the country purchases fuel at the lowest prices among its neighbors.
“Kenya buys fuel at a lower cost than our neighbors. The agreement with Saudi Arabia and the UAE sets us apart. Our neighbors like Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda are now seeking similar deals because our agreement ensures an ample and cost-effective fuel supply,” Ruto reassured.
