Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has now come out to address concerns surrounding the alleged misappropriation of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) in his constituency.
The move comes in response to an audit report by the State Department for Public Works that highlighted potential risks faced by students in Kimilili schools due to substandard construction work on classrooms.
According to the reports, 10 out of 12 schools in Kimilili have classrooms that are structurally unsound.
MP Barasa, addressing stakeholders on Saturday, January 27, asserted that the audit report was a deliberate attempt to hinder development in the county.
He also directly implicated the former constituency finance officer and UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala in the release of the allegedly false report.
According to Barasa, the finance officer, who was appointed as the CDF accountant for Kimilili on February 14, 2018, later became Malala’s sister-in-law.
The MP further claimed that in 2023, when Malala assumed his position at UDA, he employed the same finance officer at the UDA headquarters.
This, according to Barasa is where the source of his troubles started.
Barasa suggested that amid their working relationship, the officer provided Malala with briefings on the constituency’s audit reports, giving him ammunition to criticize Barasa.
The vocal MP further accused Malala of contacting him on allegations of embezzlement of CDF funds, claiming to possess Barasa’s file.
The MP blamed the finance officer for furnishing false documents that, according to him, have been used to thwart his aspirations to run for the Bungoma County governorship seat. He added that he holds her responsible for the alleged misinformation that has hindered his political ambitions.
