Police have recovered a human head which is believed to be that of the late Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student, Rita Waeni. The severed head was discovered on Sunday evening at Kiambaa dam in Kiambu County.
While addressing the media, Kiambaa police commander Pius Mwandhi confirmed the distressing incident and emphasized that investigations are currently underway.
However, it was not immediately possible to determine if indeed the human head belongs to Rita Waeni. Forensic experts will require time to conduct further tests on the head that had already started decomposing.
“It was decomposing. It was wrapped in a purple blouse and with it, we also found a stone. We believe that it was there so that it could sink,” Kiambaa police commander Pius Mwanthi said.
This grim revelation follows the earlier discovery of the mutilated body of 20-year-old Rita Waeni in an apartment in the Roysambu area of Nairobi on January 14. At that time, her head was missing, and authorities were unable to immediately confirm the victim’s identity.
The family later on disclosed that the victim was indeed Rita Waeni. According to the family, Ms Rita Waeni had left her aunt’s house in Syokimau to meet a friend.
The dismembered body parts of the university student, who was on the verge of entering her fourth year, were found inside a trash bag within the apartment by the caretaker.
