DCI detectives apprehended Boniface Kirima, a fraudulent individual posing as a lawyer, in Nakuru on Friday, following allegations of swindling his clients out of millions of shillings.
Mohammed Wako, Nakuru’s Police Commander, disclosed that they stumbled upon a charge sheet against the suspect, indicating previous charges related to obtaining money under false pretenses.
“We further managed to see a charge sheet which indicates that this man has been charged before in a court of law for obtaining money by false pretense with an intention that he can process a title deed and run a transaction of land,” stated Wako.
Linda Kiome, Chairperson of the LSK Ethics Committee, revealed that the suspect had been implicated in over a hundred land cases. She also highlighted the discovery of title deeds, some dating back to 2016, with several of them confirmed to be counterfeit.
“We have seen title deeds that are supposedly held in favor of some clients and more than a hundred title deeds are in this office, some of them have the original seal of the land registry others have a fake seal from the year 2016 up to date,” Kiome stated.
The arrest forms part of LSK’s ongoing crackdown on counterfeit lawyers across the country, with over thirty impostors apprehended since the initiative commenced.
In 2023, LSK uncovered the case of Brian Mwenda, who had been impersonating a lawyer by assuming the identity of another individual with the same name.
