Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to the aid of the Kenya wheelchair boxing team on Friday, offering much-needed support to the athletes.
The team, facing various challenges and seeking assistance, had reached out to Sonko for help, particularly as they prepare for an upcoming para-boxing tournament in Poland scheduled for June.
Led by Mary Atieno, the team had expressed their need for assistance to adequately prepare for the tournament. Sonko responded to their plea by visiting them at their training camp located in Shauri Moyo Social Hall.
During his visit, Sonko generously donated uniforms, visas, and a punching bag to the team.
Mary Atieno expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the team had previously struggled to obtain a punching bag, often having to rent one from a local dealer.
With the new equipment and support from Sonko, the team is now optimistic about their chances in the upcoming tournament and is determined to bring home the gold.
