The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has granted an extension to the application deadline for students seeking placement in universities and colleges.
In a statement released by KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, the new deadline has been set for February 26, 2024. This decision aims to ensure that all candidates have adequate time to complete their applications without missing out on the opportunity.
According to KUCCPS CEO, the number of applicants selecting degree programmes is higher than those applying for TVET courses so far.
“KUCCPS encourages those with mean grades between C and E to take advantage of the available TVET opportunities. Particularly, applicants with D+ and E are still very low and we are encouraging them to apply. They should walk into their nearest TVET institution for assistance,” she said.
Dr. Mercy Wahome emphasized the importance of providing sufficient time for both parents and students to complete the application process, thereby ensuring inclusivity and equal opportunity for all.
Moreover, she reassured applicants that KUCCPS is working closely with universities and colleges to facilitate and guide them through the application process effectively.
The decision to extend the deadline comes in response to frustrations expressed by students and parents regarding technical issues faced with the KUCCPS portal. Many prospective students encountered difficulties in submitting their applications due to disruptions on the website.
KUCCPS attributed these challenges to a surge in application traffic, which overwhelmed the system. In light of these circumstances, the extension of the application deadline provides relief to applicants, allowing them ample time to navigate the process smoothly.
