Crystal Palace has announced that Roy Hodgson is currently hospitalized and undergoing medical tests in hospital after falling ill during a training session.
The club made the announcement on Thursday, February 15, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled press conference ahead of Monday’s Premier League match against Everton.
“Following news that Roy Hodgson was taken ill during today’s training session, we can confirm that he is now stable and is currently undergoing tests in hospital. Everybody at the club sends their best wishes to Roy for a speedy recovery, ” read a statement issued by the club via their official X account.
Hodgson, 76, was expected to address the media at 1:30 pm on Thursday, but journalists waiting outside the club’s New Beckenham training ground were informed of the cancellation.
Speculations also suggest that Palace might part ways with Hodgson, with Oliver Glasner, the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss, emerging as a leading contender to replace him.
Currently, Palace sits 15th in the Premier League, five points above the relegation zone, as they prepare to face Everton, who are third from bottom.
Hodgson recently marked his 200th match as Eagles manager with a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea at Selhurst Park. This tenure is his second stint with the South London club, having returned for the final 10 games of the previous season after Patrick Vieira’s dismissal.
Hodgson steered the team to an 11th-place finish before committing to manage the club for the 2023-24 season.
Palace’s performance this season has been lackluster, with only six wins out of 24 league fixtures.
