The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has taken legal action to reclaim land parcels initially allocated for the Kenya Railways Corporation but now hosting private entities.
The EACC is also targeting private entities and former Land Commissioners implicated in dubious real estate transactions.
At the heart of the lawsuits are two land parcels situated at the intersection of Haile Selassie Avenue and Uhuru Highway. These parcels, LR. Nos. 209/9640 and 209/12361, were originally earmarked for Kenya Railways but are currently in private ownership.
The EACC has filed the cases under ELC Case No. E151/2023 for LR. No. 209/9640, owned by Neno Evangelism Center Registered Trustees, and under ELC Case No. E216/2023 for LR. No. 209/12361, belonging to James Maina Nganga.
Historical records indicate that Kenya Railways Corporation relinquished LR. No. 209/9640 in the 1950s and 1960s for public projects like government buildings and road infrastructure.
LR. No. 209/12361 was designated for a road junction aimed at enhancing traffic safety and visibility.
Neno Evangelism centre stands on the pieces of land in question. There are fears that the mega church could be brought down, days after another church was demolished.
Government officials descended on the Jesus is Alive Ministries and brought it down two days ago. The church which is associated with Bishop Margaret Wanjiru was alleged to have also been sitting on Kenya Railways land.
