Former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Bishop Margaret Wanjiru expressed her dismay on Wednesday as an unidentified group stormed her church, Jesus is Alive Ministries, situated along Haile Selassie Highway, initiating its demolition.
Addressing the media, the seasoned preacher alleged that the government orchestrated the demolition for political motives, expressing disappointment in the administration she had supported during the campaign.
“I did not expect to be repaid in this manner. It’s disheartening that this is the government we rallied behind,” Wanjiru asserted.
She added, “I find it hard to believe they could do this to me. I am the one who championed UDA in Nairobi.”
Wanjiru claimed that individuals dispatched to dismantle her church wall physically assaulted her, seized her phone, and proceeded with the mission.
Recounting the incident, the preacher stated she sustained severe injuries while attempting to thwart the officers from carrying out the demolition, announcing her intention to seek medical treatment.
According to Bishop Wanjiru, the demolishers asserted they were acting on orders from a senior government official due to the church allegedly being constructed on government land.
“There is a God in Heaven. If the Kenya Kwanza government can dare touch my property, what about the helpless civilians?” Wanjiru questioned.
“Where will we go if our own government is fighting us? Where are we going to run?”
Despite ongoing demolitions, a contingent of police officers arrived at the scene to reinforce the process and prevent potential disruptions.
Preceding this incident, on February 10, the demolishers had attempted to commence demolitions but were thwarted by a wedding ceremony taking place at the church premises.
“It is because the court case is coming up, so they are trying to protect themselves. They are trying to cover up themselves, which won’t work,” she claimed.
