Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has instructed county commissioners to enforce government-mandated operating hours for bars, which are from 5 pm to 11 pm.
“Bars should not be opened day and night. The bars that have licences to operate should be opened at 5 pm then those that want to drink can do so till 11 pm when they go home and sleep,” Gachagua emphasized.
He expressed concern over bars violating these directives, stating that day-drinking should not be tolerated.
Gachagua commended county commissioners for their efforts in curbing alcohol and substance abuse, emphasizing the importance of their role in the fight.
Furthermore, Gachagua warned that officers found involved in aiding or abetting the sale of illicit brew would face dismissal.
“Let no one sell poison to Kenyans in the pretext of alcohol,” he cautioned.
The Deputy President reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating the sale of illicit brew nationwide.
Gachagua delivered these orders on Sunday while attending the installation of new church bishops at Kapsabet AIC Church in Emgwen, Nandi County.
