Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set to engage with the Kikuyu Council of Elders on Thursday, as part of his concerted efforts to bolster his campaign ahead of the 2027 elections. Joining him will be representatives from the Kamba Council of Elders, underscoring his commitment to fostering relationships across communities.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Kikuyu Council of Elders’ headquarters in Ruaka, Kiambu County, signifies Kalonzo’s strategy to solidify his rapport with the Central Kenya region. While the exact agenda remains undisclosed, a statement from Wiper’s head of communications, Paroma Gatabaki, confirms the joint gathering of elders.
“Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will meet with elders from the Kikuyu Council of Elders and the Kamba Council of Elders,” the statement reads, without elaborating on specific topics for discussion.
In recent weeks, Kalonzo has ramped up his nationwide tours, inaugurating party offices and engaging with opinion leaders. His ambition to succeed Azimio leader Raila Odinga as the opposition figurehead, contingent upon Odinga’s potential success in securing the African Union Commission role, underscores the significance of his outreach efforts.
Traversing various counties, including Nyanza and the Coast region, Kalonzo has sought to consolidate support and expand his influence into new territories. Notably, he has been accompanied by DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, fueling speculation of a potential joint presidential ticket to challenge President William Ruto.
However, Kalonzo faces formidable opposition within the Azimio coalition, particularly from Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, who commands influence in the Mt Kenya region. Despite these challenges, Kalonzo remains undeterred in his quest for leadership, as evidenced by his recent activities.
His visit to Kwale County on March 30th, where he spearheaded a membership registration drive alongside Wamalwa and other Wiper officials, reflects his determination to expand the party’s grassroots support. “The movement is growing, and the People of Kwale County have said that they won’t go back,” Kalonzo affirmed during the event.
Continuing his outreach efforts, Kalonzo has traversed Mombasa, Kisii, Nyamira, and Migori counties, emphasizing the importance of registering new Wiper members and establishing party infrastructure in key regions.
