Officers from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and the National Police Services have resolved their differences following a scuffle that saw the two security agencies clash at the Kenya Ferry Service crossing channel over the weekend.
An amateur video circulated on social media Sunday depicted a confrontation between KDF special forces officers, police officers, and private security guards at the ferry crossing channel.
Confirming the incident, KDF stated that the altercation occurred on Saturday evening and announced the initiation of investigations to ascertain its cause.
On Monday afternoon, a reconciliation meeting took place at the Likoni crossing channel, attended by representatives from KDF, National Police, private security firms, Kenya Ferry Services, and Kenya Ports Authority.
Among the attendees were Kenya Navy Base Commander Lt. Col. John Mutabari, Likoni Deputy County Commissioner Mwangi Wambugu, Likoni OCPD Geofrey Ruheni, and KPA Manager Security Services Tony Kibwana, alongside others from the Likoni Security and Intelligence Committee.
A senior officer present at the meeting disclosed, “We agreed on mutual respect, multi-agency cooperation, and open communication channels to avoid a repeat of a similar incident.”
In a statement released on Sunday, KDF expressed regret over the incident, stating, “To establish the circumstances leading to the incident, Military Police and requisite investigation agencies are currently handling the matter. The incident is highly regrettable. As KDF personnel, we are beholden to the core value of professionalism.”
