Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka has proposed the removal of teen mothers, pregnant teens, and unruly students from the constituency’s NG-CDF bursary and scholarship program.
According to the lawmaker, this measure would serve as a form of disciplinary action against irresponsible learners who misuse taxpayer funds.
Aseka stated that he has instructed all school principals to identify such cases within their institutions and submit them for termination of their sponsorship. Speaking to a gathering of over 1,000 parents and students benefiting from the bursary program at Mwihila Boys High School, the MP emphasized his stance against using government funds to reward misconduct.
“We cannot ignore the issue of 14,000 teenage mothers who are still students and continue to allocate government resources to incentivize irresponsibility and misbehavior. They must face consequences by having their scholarships revoked and redirected to students who are committed to excelling academically,” Aseka asserted.
He highlighted instances where girls had fallen victim to early pregnancies after being lured with small amounts of money, underscoring the need for accountability. Aseka made it clear that any student found to be pregnant while under the CDF scholarship program would have their sponsorship automatically terminated, without exceptions.
The MP expressed concern over the high number of pregnant girls who had dropped out of school despite being beneficiaries of the scholarship. He mentioned that several “irredeemably unruly students” had already been removed from the program, particularly those involved in drug abuse or other forms of indiscipline, with plans to remove more in the future.
Aseka pledged to collaborate with parents and local authorities to identify and remove students from the program who participate in activities such as “disco matangas,” which often lead to moral decay and teenage pregnancies within the community.
Highlighting the importance of parental involvement, Aseka stressed the need for parents to instill good morals and discipline in their children. He warned that any student found disrespecting their parents while under the scholarship program would also face termination of their sponsorship.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to the program’s integrity, emphasizing its role in supporting students’ educational advancement while urging parents to take an active role in shaping their children’s character.
