Obunga FC etched their names in Chapa Dimba history, lifting the coveted trophy after a nail-biting penalty shootout against a valiant PASC Langa side! The tension crackled in the air at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium as the game remained deadlocked at 1-1 after a thrilling display from both teams.
George Ogutu ignited the home crowd with a stunning solo effort in the 10th minute, leaving Langa’s goalkeeper grasping at straws. The stadium pulsed with energy as both teams traded blows, creating a flurry of near misses that had fans on the edge of their seats.
Just as the momentum seemed unstoppable, heavy rains drenched the lakeside city, forcing a near hour-long delay in the second half. When play resumed, a goalkeeping error from Obunga’s Odek gifted Langa a lifeline. Alex Kamadi pounced on the loose ball, slamming it home to silence the home crowd momentarily.
With the scores level after regulation time, the fate of the championship hinged on a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Walter Odek, Obunga’s hero, emerged as a giant, making two sensational saves to deny Langa the glory. Obunga FC converted their penalties with steely resolve, securing a 5-2 victory and sending their fans into a frenzy!
“We knew we were up against a powerhouse,” declared Evans Oketch, Obunga FC’s tactician.
“But our relentless hard work, discipline, and tactical precision paid off. We are eternally grateful to our incredible fans who roared with us throughout the entire tournament!”
The girls’ category witnessed another display of dominance as defending champions Plateau Queens crushed Barcelona Ladies 4-0. Emily Moraa opened the scoring just before halftime, sending the Nyakach faithful into raptures. The second half saw a goal blitz from the Queens, with Saumu Masungo grabbing a brace and Maureen Atieno adding another to firmly establish their authority.
“We worked tirelessly and followed our coaches’ instructions to a tee,” said a beaming Saumu Masungo after the match. “Winning the semifinals fueled our determination to conquer this final hurdle.”
Queens’ coach, Collins Opidi, was brimming with pride for his young charges. “From the very beginning, I instilled in them the belief that this trophy belonged to us,” he revealed. “Barcelona Ladies are a formidable team, but our girls displayed composure and stuck to their game plan, ultimately proving their mettle.”
