Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has offered a touching glimpse into her love story with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, imparting valuable advice to young men based on their journey together.
During an interfaith service held at Kenyatta University, Pastor Dorcas, the wife of Deputy President Rigathi, reminisced about their initial encounter in the 1980s.
She fondly recalled how Rigathi’s impeccable sense of style, notably his well-dressed appearance in a brown suit, caught her attention during their first meeting in June 1987.
“I didn’t pay much attention at first, but I found him intriguing. So, young men, please take note: dress well always,” advised Pastor Dorcas.
At that time, Rigathi served as the Chairman of the Nyeri District Students Union at the University of Nairobi. He had visited Kenyatta University to register students for a visit to then-President Daniel Arap Moi’s residence in Kabarnet.
According to Pastor Dorcas, the attraction between them was mutual, and Rigathi, affectionately known as Riggy G, made his intentions clear. However, his pursuit of her was met with resistance, as Dorcas playfully recounted how she evaded Riggy G’s advances by changing hostels whenever he sought her out.
“I used to stay at Ruwenzori, and whenever he came looking for me, I would switch hostels just to avoid him. I gave him a hard time for about six months, trying to dodge him because I hadn’t made up my mind yet,” she humorously shared with the students.
Despite the challenges, Riggy G persisted in his pursuit, and eventually, Dorcas relented, leading to their union in marriage.
Since then, their relationship has flourished, evident in the affectionate way they speak of each other in public, showcasing the strength and beauty of their enduring love story.
