Police in Nakuru have confiscated 80 bags of expired fertilizer in Nakuru County and arrested one person.
The substandard fertilizer was discovered during a police operation at Fertiplant East Africa Limited in Nakuru. The fertilizer was being transported in a canter lorry bearing registration number KCP 276X.
Acting on intelligence, officers swiftly responded to the scene and found the lorry loaded with 80 bags of single Superphosphate fertilizer (SSP) marked with an expiry date of March 2018.
“Preliminary investigations established that the 80 bags of 50 kgs fertilizer from MEA factory in Nakuru was dispatched by the caretaker Mr John Kamau to Williamson Tea in Kericho. Williamson Tea after verification returned the consignment to MEA factory in Nakuru since the fertilizer had its expiry date indicated on the bag as March 2018,” police reports stated.
The seized fertilizer was then transported to Kaptembwa police station to be held as evidence.
