A student from Moi University has refuted accusations of intentionally damaging her ex-lover’s property in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County.

Agnes Wangari, the accused, pleaded not guilty in front of Eldoret Principal Magistrate Kesse Cherono. Wangari, currently pursuing social work at the university, faced allegations from her ex-boyfriend, Mohammed Ali, who claimed she destroyed his television set at his residence in Kesses trading center on March 3 of this year.

According to Ali, he had purchased the television for KSh45,000, accumulated from his earnings from online work. The court heard that an altercation erupted on that day when Wangari visited Ali’s residence, asserting she was pregnant.

“On the night of March 3 at 10 pm, the accused and her friend intruded into my home, alleging she was pregnant, which I knew to be false,” Ali stated.

Reportedly, Wangari became agitated and proceeded to damage his television set and other household items. However, Wangari countered, alleging that Ali had previously subjected her to physical abuse. She claimed that the disagreement over the pregnancy escalated, with two of her female friends present as witnesses to the incident.

Wangari was granted release on a KSh20,000 bond and instructed to appear in court again on May 23 for further proceedings regarding the case.
