The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding enhanced rainfall in various parts of the country due to a tropical storm over the South-West Indian Ocean.
According to the department, Tropical Storm IALY is likely to increase rainfall over the western half of Kenya and in parts of the highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and surrounding areas.
Additionally, the department predicts large waves in the Indian Ocean, leading to strong southerly winds in the eastern sector of the country. Heavy rainfall is also expected off the coast of Kenya, with the possibility of it moving inland.
This warning follows an earlier alert about heavy rainfall, strong winds, and ocean waves expected from Sunday through Wednesday.
David Gikungu, Director of Meteorological Services, stated that the heavy rains experienced over the weekend in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the highlands both west and east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, are expected to persist from Sunday onward.
The rainfall is expected to intensify until Monday evening, particularly over the Rift Valley, highlands both west and east of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and coastal regions on Monday and Tuesday.
