Cleophas Malala, the UDA Party Secretary General, has justified his decision to fly the official national flag on his vehicle, a privilege typically reserved for Cabinet Secretaries. In an interview yesterday, Malala explained that his role as an advisor to President William Ruto on implementing the Kenya Kwanza manifesto warrants this protocol.

“The President, in his wisdom, appointed me to advise him on the execution of the party’s manifesto within the Cabinet. The party, which formed the government, necessitates my presence in ensuring our political agenda is being properly implemented,” Malala stated.

Malala emphasized that his appointment to the Cabinet was formalized through a swearing-in process, following President Ruto’s directive for him to oversee the manifesto’s implementation. He highlighted the integral connection between the UDA party and the government.

“There is a very thin line between the party and the government. At State House, for instance, the Kenyan flag is lowered at six pm, but the UDA flag remains until we leave. This symbolizes the intertwined nature of our party and the government,” Malala explained.

In June 2023, the Cabinet authorized Malalah, along with other key advisors, including David Ndii (Chairperson of Council of Economic Advisors), Monica Juma (National Security Advisor), and Harriette Chiggai (Advisor on Women Rights), to attend Cabinet meetings.
