President William Ruto has strongly criticized Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi, calling him incompetent in handling legal matters.
Speaking at an Iftar dinner with the Muslim community at State House, Nairobi, on Tuesday evening, Ruto expressed frustration over delays in establishing a Waqf—a charitable endowment in which Muslims dedicate property for religious or public benefit.
The president attributed the delay to Muturi, who previously served as Attorney General, stating that he was unfit for the role. Ruto assured the Muslim community that with the new Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, the issue would soon be resolved.
“As we move forward, we will continue addressing issues like education and balancing religious and formal learning,” Ruto stated. “Regarding Waqf, I agree with you; it has taken too long. There was no reason for the delay, and I had a problem with the previous AG. He was fairly incompetent. But now, with a very competent lady in charge, I can assure you the Waqf matter will be sorted out.”
Ruto’s comments came after Muslim leaders sought his intervention in speeding up the establishment of the endowment fund.
Meanwhile, Muturi has been openly critical of Ruto’s administration, particularly regarding the government’s handling of abduction cases. Recently, he dismissed speculation that he might resign, asserting that his priority remains ensuring government accountability.
“Why would I resign for speaking the truth?” Muturi questioned while addressing the press on March 21. “If there is wrongdoing, I must speak up. Resigning will not fix the problems we face.”
