Starting April 1, 2025, all 416 Members of Parliament—including elected and nominated MPs, Women Representatives, and Senators—will receive an additional KSh366,000 per month for vehicle maintenance and mileage claims. This is on top of their KSh739,600 monthly gross salary.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) approved the new payments on March 20, 2025, effectively increasing legislators’ total earnings. The allowance applies to all lawmakers, whether they represent upcountry constituencies or those within Nairobi and its surroundings.

This KSh366,011 increase per MP will cost taxpayers at least KSh152 million per month and KSh1.82 billion annually. The move has sparked debate, with critics viewing it as a disguised salary hike.
