The High Court has directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to either produce missing blogger Ndiangui Kiangui or provide a satisfactory explanation for his continued disappearance by Tuesday, July 2, at 11:00 a.m.
The order was issued by Justice Chacha Mwita during a hearing on a habeas corpus application filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). The LSK moved to court after Kiangui—an outspoken blogger known for supporting the June 25 Gen Z protests—was allegedly abducted by masked men in Kinoo on June 21.
“I have taken into account the fact that the second applicant has not been found for 10 days and that the life of a citizen is in danger,” stated Justice Mwita.
The court ordered the application be served to all relevant state agencies by close of business Monday, with responses due within seven days. The matter will be mentioned in person on Tuesday, and the Inspector General must appear to explain either the blogger’s whereabouts or actions taken to trace him.
Kiangui’s disappearance has sparked public outrage and online campaigns under the hashtag #FreeNdianguiKiangui, with civil society and human rights groups calling for government accountability and respect for due process.
