Manchester United have officially signed Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million, marking the first major acquisition under manager Ruben Amorim’s tenure.
Cunha, 26, has agreed to a five-year contract with an option for an additional year. The transfer fee will be paid in three installments over two years, after United’s initial proposal to spread the payments over five years was declined by Wolves.
The Brazilian forward had an impressive season with Wolves, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists in 36 appearances, including 15 goals in the Premier League. Cunha’s versatility allows him to play as a forward, second striker, or winger, offering Amorim tactical flexibility as he rebuilds the squad following a disappointing 15th-place finish in the Premier League.
Despite interest from other clubs, including Arsenal and Aston Villa, Cunha was determined to join Manchester United. He was recently spotted in Manchester finalizing the transfer before returning to Brazil to prepare for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.
Cunha is expected to wear the iconic No. 10 jersey at Old Trafford, previously donned by Marcus Rashford. His arrival signals the beginning of a significant squad overhaul, with manager Ruben Amorim also targeting Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as a potential addition to strengthen the attacking lineup.
