A 23-year-old technician has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of teacher Albert Ojwang’, who died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody.
The technician, whose name has not yet been released to the public, is accused of interfering with CCTV footage at Central Police Station — footage believed to be crucial in revealing what transpired during the final hours of Ojwang’s life.
According to investigators, the suspect was allegedly paid KSh3,000 to delete specific segments of footage that captured the period from when Ojwang’ was booked into the station to when he was removed — by then reportedly deceased.
Authorities believe the deleted footage may have contained key evidence of what happened inside the police cells, with suspicions that Ojwang’ was assaulted and killed while in custody.
The technician’s arrest is part of a broader investigation being conducted by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which has so far questioned over 20 people, including 17 police officers and several civilians.
The latest arrest raises further concerns about a possible cover-up and deepens scrutiny of police conduct surrounding Ojwang’s death.
Investigations are ongoing, with detectives pursuing more suspects, including police officers who have gone into hiding.
