Two suspects linked to the assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were will be held at Kamiti Maximum Prison as they undergo mandatory mental evaluations ordered by the High Court.
Allan Omondi Ogolla and Isaac Kuria appeared virtually before Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from their detention at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters. During the hearing, their defense counsel requested the court to facilitate a mental assessment, citing the complexity of the case.
While such evaluations are typically conducted at Mbagathi Hospital, the defense asked for the assessments to take place at Mathari Hospital, a facility better equipped to handle intricate cases of this nature.
Justice Margaret Waringa Muigai granted the application and ordered that the accused be transferred to Mathari Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. She also directed the Criminal Division to ensure the suspects receive legal representation through the Pro Bono Committee.
The prosecution was given 14 days to complete the mental assessments, with the next court mention scheduled for June 18, 2025, in courtroom 1 for further directions.
The investigation remains active, with the defense indicating that additional suspects connected to the murder may be brought forward and requested that all cases be managed separately to allow thorough examination.
Charles Ong’ondo Were was fatally shot on April 30, 2025, near City Mortuary along Ngong Road by a lone gunman riding a motorcycle, who immediately fled the scene.
