Police in Nairobi have launched investigations after a daring gang raided a construction site along the busy Southern Bypass in Langata and stole critical machinery parts during a late-night heist.
Armed Gang Attacks China Road and Bridge Cooperation Site
According to police and officials from the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), the incident happened at dawn on Sunday, July 28. A group of unidentified assailants armed with pangas stormed the site where sewerage construction is currently ongoing.
The gang is said to have overpowered the night guards on duty, tied their hands and legs, and locked them in a room. The suspects then proceeded to dismantle and steal parts from heavy machinery parked at the location.
Stolen Equipment Includes Excavator and Generator Parts
Police reports indicate that the gang made away with various components from parked excavators and a standby generator. The total value of the stolen equipment is yet to be established, though investigators believe the items were highly valuable and likely targeted for resale or use in illicit operations.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the robbery. Police confirmed the guards were shaken but safe and are assisting with investigations.
Police Probe Ongoing Amid Rising Theft Cases
Langata police have since visited the crime scene and secured it for forensic analysis. Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are also involved in tracing the perpetrators, who are believed to be part of an organized crime ring targeting construction sites in Nairobi.
This incident adds to the growing number of construction-related thefts in Kenya’s capital. Authorities have urged companies operating in isolated areas to enhance security, including installing CCTV systems and alarm protocols.
