Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced a significant reduction in the county’s ballooning pending bills, saying his administration has slashed the figure from Sh119 billion to Sh83 billion.

Fake Claims Exposed

Speaking during an interview on Radio Jambo, Governor Sakaja revealed that a thorough review had uncovered irregular claims, including fake Local Purchase Orders (LPOs) that had been presented to the county and wrongly classified as pending bills.

“We have already reduced them by Sh39 billion and will continue with the review process,” Sakaja said.

Longstanding Debt Problem

The governor noted that Nairobi’s financial woes date back many years, insisting that his administration cannot ignore past debts.

“As we make Nairobi work, we must also resolve the past issues because Nairobi didn’t start in 2022,” he remarked.

Focus on Financial Discipline

Sakaja pledged to continue scrutinizing all claims to ensure taxpayers’ money is used responsibly, adding that the ongoing cleanup will help free up funds for essential county services.
