Concerns are growing among Nairobi residents after a spike in mob-style muggings within the Central Business District (CBD).
The gangs, often operating in groups of 20–30 youths, have been accused of terrorizing pedestrians, motorists, and commuters by forcefully snatching valuables.
County Government Issues Stern Warning
Speaking on Tuesday, Nairobi County Environment CEC Geoffrey Mosiria revealed that the criminals are now disguising themselves as content creators to trap unsuspecting victims.
“It is a gang of young boys. They come to town pretending to create content, but in reality, they rob people. They have even started carrying human waste, threatening to pour it on victims unless they hand over all their belongings,” Mosiria warned.
He further cautioned Nairobians against giving money to street families, saying some of them use the donations to fuel criminal activities.
“If you see street families, don’t give them money. When you do, they buy glue during the day and at night they rob people. If you want to help, support them to go back home, find them work, or return them to school,” he added.
Residents Raise Alarm on Safety
Netizens have flooded social media platforms lamenting about the increasing insecurity, with many sharing personal experiences of violent daylight robberies in the CBD.
Calls have intensified for security agencies to step up patrols, restore order, and protect residents as cases of violent thefts continue to escalate.
