Nairobi, Kenya – October 5, 2025 – The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that the ongoing heavy rainfall experienced across several parts of the country will persist in the coming days.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the department said the torrential rains will continue in Nairobi, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Coastal regions.

Heavy Winds and Flooding Expected

According to KMD, the rainfall may be accompanied by strong winds capable of damaging trees, power lines, and weak structures. The weatherman further cautioned that flash floods may occur, including in areas where no rainfall has been recorded upstream.

“Refer to forecast maps for rainfall distribution and intensity,” the statement advised.

“Kenyans are urged to avoid crossing moving water, stay indoors during thunderstorms, and remain alert to potential flooding.”

Kenyans Urged to Stay Vigilant

Heavy rains have been pounding most parts of the country since Friday evening, disrupting transport and affecting normal activities. Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone areas to move to safer grounds and monitor updates from the Meteorological Department.

The department continues to share updates on its official platforms, urging the public to follow forecasts closely to minimize the risk of weather-related disasters.
