Kenyan musician Willy Paul has revealed that his liquor store in Nairobi was raided by a group of suspected hired goons on Thursday night, leading to theft and extensive property damage.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account, the award-winning artist said the group broke into his business premises, vandalised property, and made away with expensive bottles of alcohol.
“My shop was targeted by a group of hired goons who attempted to create the impression that the attack was carried out by students. In reality, their sole intention was theft,” wrote Willy Paul.
He added that the assailants attempted to steal the CCTV hard drive but failed, thanks to quick response from security guards in the area.
Significant Damage and Ongoing Police Investigations
According to Willy Paul, the vandals smashed windows, damaged his car, and left the premises in disarray, though no injuries were reported.
“They broke into the shop, stole merchandise, including expensive alcohol, and even tried to steal the CCTV hard drive but were unsuccessful,” he stated.
The singer confirmed that police have launched investigations into the attack, with officers expected to review surveillance footage to identify the perpetrators.
“The police have been notified. Investigations are already underway, and we are working closely with the authorities to apprehend those responsible,” he said.
Business Remains Open Despite Attack
Despite the incident, Willy Paul assured fans and customers that The Bar Next Door (BND) remains open and fully operational, urging them to continue showing support.
“I also want to let you know that our business remains open, and we appreciate your continued support during this time,” he added.
The raid happened just hours before the artist’s scheduled performance at the Mazingira Day Party, which was to take place at the same venue later on Friday night.
Fans flooded his post with messages of support, calling on authorities to bring the culprits to justice.
Willy Paul — known for chart-topping hits such as Sitolia, Umeme, and Jigi Jigi — has in recent years ventured into entrepreneurship, with The Bar Next Door marking one of his growing investments in Nairobi’s nightlife and entertainment sector.
As of Friday evening, police had not yet issued an official statement on the break-in.
