A night of celebration for three nursing students in Makindu ended in tragedy after one was fatally stabbed and another arrested following a violent altercation.
The students, all second-year trainees from Goshen Medical College in Thika, had just completed their clinical attachment at Makindu Sub-County Hospital and decided to celebrate at a popular local club on Thursday night.
Witnesses say the group returned to their rented house in the early hours of the morning, appearing intoxicated but cheerful — until a violent argument broke out moments later.
“We heard loud screams and banging from their house,” said one neighbor. “By the time we rushed outside, one of the girls was bleeding and calling for help.”
A disturbing video reportedly recorded by a neighbor shows the victim crawling out of the house, bleeding from the neck before collapsing. She was rushed to Makindu Sub-County Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Medical officers confirmed that the victim sustained a fatal stab wound to the neck.
Suspect in Hospital Under Police Guard
Police have detained one of the victim’s classmates — also a nursing student — as the prime suspect. She is currently being treated for knife injuries at the same hospital under tight security.
According to Makindu sub-county police, once she is medically cleared, she will be transferred to police custody for formal interrogation.
Love Triangle Theory Emerges
Preliminary investigations suggest that a love triangle may have sparked the deadly fight. A boda boda rider who ferried the students home that night and a neighbor who filmed the incident have already recorded statements with detectives.
A third student, who was present during the altercation, is being held at Makindu Police Station to assist investigators.
Police have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack and are awaiting a postmortem report as investigations continue.
