Detectives in Nairobi are investigating a case in which a househelp allegedly stole a pistol loaded with 40 bullets, foreign currency, and jewelry from her employer’s home in Kileleshwa.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Monday, November 3, 2025, when the suspect was left alone at home after her employer and family stepped out for errands.
Upon returning, the family discovered that a portable safe containing a Glock pistol, two magazines, USD 1,950, €600, Sh5,000, assorted jewelry, land title deeds, and electronic gadgets had been stolen.
Caught on CCTV Walking Out with Carton
Investigators said security cameras at the residence captured the woman walking out with a carton box, which police believe contained the stolen safe.
Security guards stationed at the compound told detectives they did not raise alarm as they assumed she had been sent on an errand by the homeowners.
Police on the Hunt for Missing Firearm
Nairobi Police Commander George Seda confirmed the incident, saying detectives are tracking down the suspect for questioning and recovery of the stolen firearm and valuables.
“We are making efforts to trace the woman for grilling and possible recovery of the weapon and cash,” Seda said.
Authorities have expressed concern that the stolen pistol could be sold to criminals, posing a serious security risk.
Rising Incidents of Domestic Worker Theft
Police have in recent months raised alarm over a surge in theft cases involving domestic workers, particularly in Nairobi’s high-end estates.
Officials have urged residents to conduct proper background checks and registration before hiring domestic staff.
