Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a TikTok content creator accused of publishing false information about an alleged assassination plot, which quickly went viral on social media.

In a statement released on Friday evening, the DCI identified the suspect as Roy Otieno Odhiambo, who allegedly posted a video on October 20, 2025, claiming he had been paid KSh3.5 million to assassinate a prominent Kenyan individual.

DCI Tracks Suspect to Malindi

According to the DCI, the video sparked widespread public concern, prompting a multi-agency investigation to verify the authenticity of the claims.

After days of digital tracing, detectives tracked down Odhiambo to his hideout in Malindi, where he was arrested and taken into custody.

“The suspect has since been processed and is awaiting arraignment,”
said the DCI in its official statement shared via social media.

The agency warned Kenyans against spreading false information online, noting that such actions amount to cybercrime under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.

DCI Issues Warning on Social Media Misinformation

The DCI further reminded content creators and social media users that publishing unverified or misleading information can lead to legal consequences, especially when it endangers public safety or causes panic.

Authorities emphasized that investigations into the origin and motive of the viral video are still ongoing.
